Agriculture

The Ministry of Agriculture calls for the possibility of finding work in agricultural holdings and enterprises during the extreme situation where the disease of the Covid-19 disease has been lost as a result of measures restricting the spread of the disease. Some Latvian agricultural holdings feel a lack of labour force and offer both permanent and seasonal work in various agricultural sectors.
Minister for Agriculture Kaspars Gerhards: “This is a difficult time of challenges for several sectors as Latvia and around the world. The creation of new or temporary work is one of the topical issues that currently worry Latvian citizens and entrepreneurs. It is therefore important to take into account that the agricultural sector also has a wide range of opportunities to find work in various farms and businesses. It is not only an opportunity in the sector that provides the people of Latvia with continuous food availability, to find temporary work, but the more even the opportunity to see and link their future work with the agricultural sector through the production of already ancient products, as well as to create new and innovative food products.”
Jobseekers for vacant jobs in agricultural holdings may apply for a remote employment agency (NVA) CV and vacancy in Portal. At present, THE SEA has registered around 700 current vacant jobs in agriculture. Similarly, employers are invited to apply for vacancies in their agricultural holdings or businesses in THEIR FARM and vacancy portal when they seek employees.
In several agricultural sectors, entrepreneurs are faced with a regular lack of labour force. For example, workers are very welcome in horticulture and fruit farming, both at the beginning of the agricultural production season and in the summer and autumn. Due to the lack of employees in horticulture and fruit-growing, the field is not harvested as part of the cultivated area. In the summer of 2020, the horticulture and fruit-growing sectors are expected to offer up to 2000 workers. The farm workers are waiting for a great deal of responsiveness.
