Trūpu Devil's Stone

The Devil's Stone is located on the left side of the Riga-Rēzekne highway, about 800 m northwest of the Malta river bridge, 1600 m south of the Piziči castle hill.

Archaeological monument - place of worship. In ancient times, as the story says, thunder split the stone of Trūpu Devil into three parts. The stone got its name from the fact that the Devil's dried money on it. A pit was dug next to the stone in ancient times. Not far from Devil's stone was the Piziči mound dug into the gravel. Dimensions of the stone, now in three parts: the largest part: length 4.20 m, width 3.10 m, height 1.8 - 2.2 m, circumference 11 m, volume about 14 cubic meters. This part of the stone has a natural cavity on the surface – 0.35 x 0.45 x 0.06 m. The second part of the stone - length 2.5 m, width 2.4 m, height 2 m, circumference 8 m, volume 6 cubic meters, and on its side a shallow modern engraving "heart" can be seen. The third part of the stone – length 2.4 m, width 1.5 m, height 1.7 m, volume about 3 cubic meters. In total, the stone would be around 23 cubic meters in size. It probably split in half naturally (according to the legend – split by thunder), but the split between the two smaller parts is artificial, the places of forging are visible. By composition, the stone is a medium crystalline gray granite. The ridge of the mountain on which the Devil's Stone is located is overgrown with thick thickets, and in the past was pitted with gravel pits.
