The association “Maltas chess club” was founded on 25 February 1995. Chairman of the Club Board from 1995-2007 was Igors Sorocins. From 2007 - Guntars Prikulis. As of November 2005, the club was awarded the status of a public benefit organisation. In 2007, he won the nomination for enthusiasm and persistence in the public benefit organisation competition.

The main objectives and tasks of the club's activities: increasing the level of the new chess match, a chess as an intense propaganda of intellectual work capacity development, a chess-time organisation.
