On 12 March, an international conference will be held: “Baltic EU negotiations 2021: Does Europe become better?”

To discuss challenges in Europe during the pandemic and after Brexitas well as the future and role of the European Union (EU) on a global scale, on Friday, 12 March, a high-level expert international conference “Baltic EU Conversations 2021: Does Europe become better?” will be held online. It is organised by the Latvian Foreign Policy Institute (LAS) in cooperation with the European Commission (EC) representation in Latvia and the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia.

The conference will be opened BY THE Director of THE LAS Andris sprūds, President of the Saeima Ināra Mūrniece, and the Head of MISSION of THE ec Delegation in Latvia Andris Kužnieks.

The first part of the conference will be devoted to EU trade policy, while the next actors will discuss whether THE EU Member States and the EU itself have passed the stress test as well as the global economic recovery in the context of climate change and pandemic.   

Three parallel discussions will take place in the middle of the day, where live shows will be translated from all three Baltic States. Direct transmission from Tallinn will be provided by the Estonian Foreign Policy Institute and the International Centre for Defence and Security (ICDS), focusing on the strategic autonomy of Europe. The second parallel panel conversation from Vilnius to the Vilnius University International Relations and Policy Institute will be devoted to the European Neighbourhood Policy. On the other hand, in the third parallel discussion, which will be provided by the Latvian Foreign Policy Institute, the participants will discuss whether the permanent crises strengthen THE EU.

The outcome of the event will discuss the future of THE EU and its role in the world, including what the general strategy, position and interactions of the European society should be in the increasingly complex and demanding world.
