The special economic zone of Rezekne (Rezekne SEZ, http://www.rsez.lv) was established in 1997 in the territory of Rezekne municipality and the city of Rezekne with the aim of promoting trade, developing industry and traffic, as well as exports and imports of goods through Latvia, attracting investments for the development of production and infrastructure and the creation of new jobs.

Companies which have concluded a contract with the Rēzekne SEZ manager may receive direct tax relief up to 55% of the amount of the investment project – up to 100% real estate tax credit and 80% corporate income tax credit – as well as indirect tax relief, forming the free areas of Rezekne Special Economic Zone.

The special economic zone of Rezekne is established on the basis of the Law on the Special Economic Zone of Rezekne, with a period of validity until 31 December 2035. The Rēzekne SEZ Board is a joint authority of the municipality of Rezekne and the municipal council of Rezekne City Council.

The total area of the Rezekne Special Economic Zone area is 1155 ha, of which 64% or 737,26 ha is located in the municipality of Rēzekne Municipality, Griškanan and Ozolaine.

Four of the 19 Rēzekne SEZ commercial companies operate in the territory of Rezekne municipality – “Verems” RSEZ SIA, SIA “LEAX Rezekne” RSEZ, “IRBIS Technologies” RSEZ SIA.

The total turnover of Rēzekne SEZ commercial companies amounted to eur 85 million in 2016, which is the highest indicator since the creation of Rezekne SEZ. In total, 845 employees have been employed in the commercial companies of Rezekne SEZ.
