Anton Ushpelis (1944) 14.08 – 2015. 26.08)
It is August, a ripening rust in the sky. Unexpectedly and suddenly, there is a mourning message about the departure of Latgale's ceramic grandmaster Anton Ushpeel. The tough, like the root of Latgale oak, Anton had stayed on the ground, disappointed from its strength, bored at work to earn the daily bread and thank God for it. In August of last year, with an ornate personal exhibition and a friend of friends, Mr Ushmouse celebrated his 70 th life anniversary.
He was born in the Preilian district of Silaiana as a third child in the rich Latgale podnieks in Ushpeu. The skills of children in the days of childhood, helping her father to love her clay and trying to get a podigner's wheel, get into a job, a day-to-day job. His skills Anton Ushmouse supplemented and deepened his knowledge by learning Rezekne's applied art secondary school ceramics. The young artist had carefully studied Latgale's ceramic traditions, learned much from his father and Silaian-old masters Andreja Paulan, Polycarp Wilchan, brothers Kaļvas, Riuchi, Polycarp Chernavsky. As early as 1968, he is awarded the name of the People's Tourism Master.
In honour and respectful of his grandfather's inheritance, Anton Ushmouse had never stopped in his creative work and active division throughout his life, which touched on his life and love - Latgale ceramics, whether they would be the annual potters' days with the killing of the biscuits, or the exhibitions and the work of the People's applied art studios. His majestic candles, the proud breasts of Liga Festival, the mighty medaunieks and the cream beams, the pots of the peasant sweat of the bread, with small plastic tabs, have rowed the exhibition hall in both Latvia and the former USSR, France, Portugal, ČSSR, the Bulgarian TR, the Hungarian TR, the Polish TR, THE VDR. The number of exhibitions reaches hundreds.
The contribution of Latgale's son, Anton Ushpeel, has been assessed with the highest national award - the three-star order of the V class, the creative activity of the masters in the inheritance and co-operation of the People's Art traditions - with the diploma of the Latvian artists' Union diploma and A. Paulani, recognition articles. In 2014, he was awarded a lifelong scholarship for his life contribution to the preservation and development of Latgale ceramic traditions.
Month of harvest and fairs August... “Flows, brushes, madaunas, mozim beard whistles!” – the ancient podor slogan, Anton Ushpeel's voice, in Latgale's ceramic exhibition. A bright road in eternity gardens, old masters!
I say sympathy to Anton's spouse, his son with his family, the entire Ushmel family!

In Memorandum
On August 26, 2014, we discovered Anton Ushpeel's ceramic exhibition in Latgale's cultural history museum, dedicated to the 70 s anniversary. I just reviewed the fixed photo moments - for the first time, the opening moment of the exhibition had gathered so many clay masters together, confirming the respect of Latgale's ceramic old master Anton Ushmouse. It is a year - an old master has gone to those clay bulls who look at us along the edge of the sky, Anton is no longer … although the burden of the years was great, but the loss is unexpected, especially for those who remain.
Anton Ushmouse was born in 1944 in the Dukes of Preiles. His first love of clay, as a material, was seen through his father's Anton's vision, a traineeship at the Preilar Master Polycarp Chernavsky. In 1968, he was uzņēma by the Latvian artist in the Union of Latvian artists in 1972. For decades, the Silesian podcasts' tradition and had been faithful for all his life. The work of Anton Ushpeel is based on extensive knowledge of Latgale ceramic household dishes, glazes, small plastic and twisted container forms. In 1986, the master received A. Paulan medal and a diploma for creative performance in ceramics. In 2005, he became a member of the three-star Order and, this year, he received a gratitude for his contribution to the development of Latgale ceramic traditions during the festival “Baltica 2015”. In almost every Latvian museum, he was the most brightest sign of the Latgale ceramic.
You don't need to cry, you must put your head in gratitude for the masters', rich life. And yet we'll miss Anton's optimistic smile for a while, the skills with my feet in the museum of Latgale culture, the hospitality, the support in the events surrounding the love of clay, his work at the annual Latgale artists' autumn exhibitions. Anton, however, has understood love for his son, Aivar, is the grandson Yumis, the ancestral houses, the great cups with the people of Latgale and the rub song that ranks from his wolves. Thank you.
