Survey people about renaming four street names

In August, members of the Rēzekne municipality council received the submission of the association “public memory centre” “on the implementation of the duty of condemnation of the Communist totalitarian regime laid down in the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia and the termination of the praise of rusification”. Four communist totalitarian regimes or rusifikāciju official local names have been identified in the municipality of Rezekne.

Before renaming street names in the Rēzekne municipality, the cultural division of the municipality of Rezekne, in cooperation with the management of THE Nautrēnu association, THE management of THE Dricānu association, THE management of THE Maltas association and the management of THE Kaunatas association will organise a survey of the population, during which every local resident will be invited to submit their proposals and suggestions. For the time when the survey will be launched, but it is expected that it  this will take place by 31 October. 

Following the proposals of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Sports of 11 August 2022, the following street names will be revised:

  • Victory Street, Ratnieki, Čornajas civil parish;

(due to the time period in which the name was assigned).

  • Samuilovas street Malta, Maltas parish;

L.samuilova was born in 1922 IN Maltā. A composer. Part of the Communist resistance movement in the Second World War. A member of the partisan unit, after training in the vicinity of a descendant station in February 1944. In the Soviet literature called “Latgale Zoju” (i.e. Space-demanding). Commemorative and pioneer organisations were named in the name of samuilov. According to “Latgale data” information.

  • Pionieri Street, Stružānu parish in Rēzekne municipality;

(due to the time period in which the name was assigned).

  • Jānis Zvīdra Street, Vērēmu parish in Rēzekne municipality;

Born on 1 September 1895 in Makashan parish in Sherbinyk village. Member of the Communist Movement (Member of Latgale Youth and Communist Organisation), member of the Soviet Government Rēzekne Executive Committee/1919-1920/. It should be noted that before taking a decision on renaming street names, new street names will be aligned with the national language centre.
