Eur 17,7 million approved by the European Parliament will be invested in the restoration of road and recreational infrastructure
On Tuesday, 13 November, the European Parliament approved the allocation of eur 17,7 million to Latvia for the damage caused by the long-standing fires in the summer of 2017 and in the autumn. These funds will be allocated from THE EU Solidarity Fund (EUSF).
“I am pleased with the decision of the European Parliament to provide financial support to Latvia for the damage caused by long-term redundancies in the summer of 2017 and in the autumn. The consequences of floods in Latgale, Celia and Vidzeme were particularly severe, as they caused large losses to farmers and in many places devastated the melting systems and roads, as well as other infrastructure objects in rural areas. The funding allocated is very important and we will invest it in the restoration of damaged road and melioration systems,” says Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs.
The EUR 17,7 million allocated TO THE EUSF will be invested by Latvia in order to:
- strengthen the national road infrastructure water offspring systems (e.g. the cleaning of the fodder, the cleaning of damaged pipes and cleaning);
- restoring national and municipal melioration systems (e.g. harvesting, sandeel cleaning, restoration of slopes, renovation of damaged drains and drainage of drainage collectors);
- restore damaged pipes (e.g. draining, wash-out cleaning, restoration of end fixations, filling of leachate, reconstruction of the road above the hole, and repair of the defective trays – repair of adjustment devices and mechanisms, and cleaning of lock-in channels, restoration of the sandeel detention facility);
- securing protective dams (e.g. harvesting, filling of sediment and leachate, restoring dams and slopes, restoring the surface of the surface).
The Ministry of Agriculture is currently preparing an informative report “on financial assistance to Latvia from the European Union Solidarity Fund”, which is planned to be submitted to the government at the end of November. Although the funding allocated BY THE EUSF is to be used within 18 months from the date on which the European Commission adopts a decision to grant the entire amount of aid by means of an implementing act, the Ministry of Agriculture intends to use it within the full time limit.
