The tickets have been ordered, a nice guest house at the sea reserved, the neighbor agreed to look at your cat - everything is prepared so that you can go for such a long vacation. Wait for a moment if you've forgotten anything! Apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EVAK) if something goes off as planned.
What is the European Health Insurance Card?
A free card showing that you have access to public health care when you stay temporarily in another Member State of the European Union, in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland, under the same conditions and costs, free of charge in individual countries, but not in all Member States as insured persons in the country concerned. The card is issued by your country's health insurance institution where you are insured.
In which cases CANNOT the card be used?
THE EVAK card covers only emergency healthcare services that are required while a person is staying in another EU country. The card does not cover expenses if you travel with the purpose of receiving pre-planned medical care. The card does not replace travel insurance and does not cover healthcare services received in private practice. The card does not cover the ticket to your country or compensate for losses related to lost luggage or other personal property.
