"When i was a young boy and just started to do the beautiful arts, i had a dream - Oh, God, i wish i could painting what the Latgale people were doing. That task is too big, it's not one person. I don't think i can do it. Maybe one of me … '

On the evening of 7 November, after a serious illness, Osvalds Zvejsalnieks was born, a brilliant painter, professor of Latvian art academy emeritus, a long-time director of the Rēzekne Art and Design Secondary School, a three-star officer.

Osvalds Zvejsalnieks was born on 21 March 1944. As a child, he was accompanied by Luban in the “Zvejsalas”, the municipality of Rezekne, IN the parish OF Nagļu. “In spring, we always had enormous floods. All the meadows flooded from the house to the house was only possible with boats. Then the nature was fantastic. When the wardrobe and the beans began to flower, the air from the scent was literally yellow and thick. That world has gone. No more floods, and there is no more nature," Osvald said in an interview. The very bright childhood memories and nature inspired most of his paintings. Latgale was Osvald's land and had his heart.

Osvald studied AT Nagļu at seven-year-old school, later at Viļānu in elementary school. He completed the Latvian Academy of Art in 1971, as a member of the Latvian artists' Union since 1976. From 1970 to 2021 he worked in the Secondary School of Art and Design of Rezekne, including 28 years of school. Due to the persistence of Osvald Fisherman, the Latvian Art Academy Latgale branch was opened in Rēzekne in 1991. Osvalds Zvejsalnieks was not only an express painter, but also an active social worker and politician. Was 7. Member of the Saeima. Osvalds Zvejsalnieks is a monument “united to Latvia” (called “Latgale Māra“) renovation work ”, the Latvian wake-up driver in Rezekne and Latgale.

In the early 1990 s, Zvejsalnieks participated in filming the film “human child” as the main artist – he was responsible for the environment to look like John KCo at the time described in the twentieth years of the 20 th century. Interestingly, Khalifa's hero, Bigi's prototype, was Osvald's mum - she had lived in Clay's neighbors and occasionally nursed the little Jānis Khalifa.

In almost 60 years of creative work, Osvalds Zvejsalnieks participated in more than 70 shows, national and international art exhibitions, organized around 30 personal exhibitions, regular co-operation at plenary and group exhibitions both in Latvia and abroad. The Fisherman's works are located in several national and foreign museums, as well as in private collections. “I don't feel sorry for my paintings,” Osvald said.

Osvalds Zvejsalnieks has received the highest award of the Republic of Latvia – a three-star order. He was an honorary citizen of Rezekne, receiving the Latvian Year award “Boņuks” for contributions to the development of Latgale culture, as well as other awards.

In his colleagues' memories, Osvald will remain a resolute, ambitious leader, an open and creative teacher, a life-wise, helpful and simple man. With an internal brightness and a philosophical view of the world, he taught us to see the important details of life and not to disappear in a daily haste.

The art-makers say that everything Osvald Fisherman painted is a self-portrait of his life – true, bright and emotional rich. “If i suddenly show someone who would say i can start a life from the start, i would do the same in large trains.” Of course, such nonsense would be avoided, but even though the times and circumstances have changed, the same way i have gone. '

We say condolences to relatives and all the people of Latgale culture!
