The participation of participants in Latvia's broader environmental education and secondary raw materials collection campaign for “clean Latvia” has been launched. The campaign brings together hundreds of Latvian educational institutions every year in order not only to encourage children and young people to compete in the collection of maculatics, but also to make a significant contribution to the development of waste sorting culture and the saving of natural resources – wood, water, as well as electricity.
Educational institutions from all Latvia are invited to apply for the “clean Latvia” campaign. The registration of the participants in the collection of the paper shall take place at: www.tirailatvijai.lv by 1 March 2020. The participants of the campaign will not only participate in the fight for valuable money prizes and educational excursions, but they also receive guaranteed gifts for contributions to the development of clean Latvia. The school will receive recycled paper for each tonne of paper collected, as well as all participants in the competition will be able to attend a grand environmental festival free of charge, where the organisers will thank each member of the “clean Latvia” campaign with creative workshops, masters and musicians.
The campaign for “clean Latvia” makes a significant contribution to the promotion of recycling of secondary raw materials at national level. First, children and young people are educated about environmental issues and better understand human responsibility for the waste generated. Secondly, by physically involving children in shared collection, both the educational institutions and the pupils' families are involved in the sorting of waste. Thirdly, the volumes collected annually confirm the importance of the campaign, as this is an essential way of putting several dozens of tons of sculptures into circulation every year, which not only helps to protect trees from felling, but also saves considerable amount of water, energy and finance.
The “green belt” campaign for “clean Latvia” has become a significant annual environmental protection measure for hundreds of Latvian educational institutions. In the course of the last year of school, within the framework of the campaign, 939,545 tonnes of maculatics were collected and transported to 37.20 children and young people from 388 educational institutions from around Latvia. Last year, the campaign has made a significant contribution to the management of environmentally harmful waste in the country - by participating in 55 003 children and young people from 233 educational institutions, 21,14 tonnes of spent batteries were transferred to the green belt recycling. The collection of spent batteries is also organised in this school year.
The “green belt” is organized by “green belt” in collaboration with SIA “Līgatne paper”, SIA “Balticfloc”, SIA “AROUND piles”, “Latvian State Forests”, SIA “Urban Services” and the national education content centre.
