What is the bats and what can we learn from it?
On October 8, in the framework of our parish project “Conservation and protection of natural values in the context of the Ozolaine parish in the context of sustainable environment”, a meeting with Daugavpils University biologist Ainars Pankyana was organized in the primary school. He took the lessons “to introduce the world of bats!”
Very fascinating, during two sessions we were introduced to the world of bats. We learn that there are 16 bats in Latvia that the nearest larger colonies are in Daugavpils fortress (there is also a bats centre) and Luznava Manor. Some of them, like birds, fly south. Bats-vampire are not bloodsuckers, but blood-wipers. Fruit bats like humans tend to suffer from alcoholism. They look for ripe fruit to get juice-alcohol.
The largest bats with wings are in human height (1.70 m). Bats lie down, because they need to fall (at least 0.5 m) to lift up. One bat can eat 400 odes with echoing aid during one night. Bats must not be touched (all are protected in Latvia!) and taken with bare hands, only in gloves, because the animal can bite! And finally, the bats are always good, because they have one free finger – a thumb that is raised all the time up!
Some pupils filled the bats' fur to find out the length of their fingers to fly.
At the end of the lesson we are awaited by surprise: the largest collection of beetles and the lives of Madagascar's cockroach and hundreds. He had to fight against fear to take them in his arms.
Thank you very much for your emotions and knowledge.
