In the early morning of September 25, the main school folklore “Liepiņa” went to Riga to participate in the Riga children's and youth competition - “We Riga” concert. The purpose of this competition was to promote intercultural contacts and communication between the minority and ethnic minority in Riga and elsewhere in Latvia, encouraging the involvement of children and young people in the activities of the non-governmental sector.
This wonderful concert - the competition was held in Riga non-governmental organisation. There were around 200 participants in the event, representing more than 35 collectors from Riga schools and, as well as invited guests, Maltas secondary school ensemble and foundry primary school folklore set. The competition was organised by the association “youth cultural and aesthetic education association”.
The competition took place in 3 nominations:
- a folk song (vocal);
- People's dance
- Actual art (sketch where the People's tale or its fragments are taken).
The performance of all participants was evaluated by a professional jury in 3 people - an actor, composer and a ballet dancer. In the competition, each participant in the song, dance or actor performance had to show a People's Culture – such as a People's Song, a People's dance, a fairy tale.
We were delighted about the attractive performance of the children of Riga. Fiery Spanish dances, mysterious Burjata dances, ovens and exotic Chinese, Turkish and Indian dances were danced. Everyone was delighted by the temperament of the synchronous Irish dance dancer, the Russian “Barnier” and the Ukrainian “Guculochka” and the highly artistic performance. A nice man's song sang the Armenian boy. Collectively sang in Lithuanian, Belarusian, English, Jewish. They were all touched by a duet from Strazstupid's special boarding school, where the blind children sang.
Participants in each nomination received Grade 1, 2 or 3 diploma or gratitude for participation.
The foundry school folklore “Liepiņa” gave a 7-minute program and sang the Latgalian peoples and danced a very brilliant dance “Bričkus”. The audience and the jury enjoyed our performance. In this competition, our folklore set won the main prize “GRAND PRIX” and a certificate of 100 euros.
When they heard the jury's score, the children cheered loudly, but some couldn't bear the tears of joy and seemed to be crying for the first time in life. The children immediately decided that they would not be willing to eat bones, so they suggested that they buy new musical instruments to grow, develop and prepare for new concerts.
Thank you, children!
