A cycle of events dedicated to the centuries of Latgale Congress will be launched in Rēzekne in November

The Academy of Technology and Partners of Rezekne - the municipality of Rezekne, the municipality of Ludza, the Municipality of Lephans, the municipality of Madona, the association “Latvian Innovators' Association”, the association “Biomass Technology Centre”, launching the cycle of the project event co-financed by the Latvian Environment Protection Fund, the project event of Latgale Congress, organizes the forum “The sustainability dimensions of Latvia – educated people and the preservation of natural values”, which will be held 25 November 2016 at 11:30 Academy of Rēzekne Technology (Liberation Alliance 115).

The Forum is the first of six initiatives included in the project “Sustainability of Latvia – educated people and the preservation of natural values”.

The Discovery Forum will be followed by three expert discussions: Ludza, Madona and Lephans. The final forum will be held at the historic date of Latgale Congress, celebrating its reflection centuries, on April 28, 2017 in Rezekne. An exhibition dedicated to the decade of the Nature Park of Razna will be opened during the forum. The measure will provide a final report summarising the relevant expert conclusions and proposals expressed in all six project initiatives.

The objective of the first forum “Sustaining the sustainability of Latvia – educated people and the preservation of natural values” is to assess and analyse the systemic commitment of the quality of life, education, research and business environment in the context of a broad range of experts in the context of the State sustainability, with particular emphasis on the opportunities and risks resulting from it, in order to improve the high-value environmental and regional policy in Latvia and Latgale.

In the November event, the Minister for Environmental Protection and Regional Development Kaspars Gerhards, Vice-President of the Commission for Sustainable Development of the Saeima Laimdota Straujuma, Vice-President of the Latvian Academy of Sciences Andrejs Krasņikov, President of Latvia's Constitutional Law Advisor Janis Pleps as well as Chairman of Rezekne City Council Alexander Bartachvičs. With the message of the forum, the project partner Rēzekne Technology Academy rector Edmunds Turumnieks, President of Ludza District Council Alīna Gendele, Chairman OF the Rēzekne District Council Monvīds Švarcs, Chairman of the Lephen District Council Andris Vaivods and Chairman of Madona District Council Andrejs Zelapheters.

In plenary and two panels, presentations will be presented by Janis storm, Professor of Riga Stradiņš University, Juris Krūmina, President of the Council of Higher Education, Professor of Latvia University, Deputy State Secretary of the Alda Oak, Environmental Protection and Regional Development Ministry of Environmental Protection, Edmunds Turumnieks, Rector of the Rēzekne Technology Academy, Inese Kokina, Prorector of the University of Daugavpils University, Erika Ruskule, Director of the State Environmental Service Rēzekne Regional Environment Administration, Mārtiņš Zemitis, Head of the European Commission Delegation in Latvia, Sandra Ežmala, the head of the European Commission's representative economic zone administration, Janis Zaļosnis, Vidzeme university researcher, the head of the European Commission's Department of Economic Zone.

The project “Sustainability of Latvia - educated people and preservation of natural values” is dedicated to the centuries of Latvia and is implemented with financial support from the Latvian Environment Protection Fund and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development.
