The artist exhibition of the Rēzekne municipality joins the visitors of the Committee of the Regions in Brussels
By 30 April in Brussels, an exhibition “miracles of clay, fire and nature” can be seen in the building of the Committee of the Regions, in which three types of art – the Ushpeu family ceramics, the footnotes of the Ushmouse painting and the photographs of the photoclub “artery” – have been collected together. The exhibition is organised by the Latvian delegation and the Committee of the Regions with the aim of presenting the European Union Presidency – Latvia – culture and traditions more widely.
The opening of the exhibition was held on 16 April, immediately after the plenary session of the Committee of the Regions, so that the lump and attractiveness of Latgale clay could be assessed by a wide range of stakeholders: almost 350 members of the Committee of the Regions from all 28 Member States of the European Union, Members of the European Parliament, permanent representatives of several countries in the European Union, as well as around 20 journalists from various regions of Latvia who were invited to reflect the plenary session of the Committee of the Regions and the activities of the Latvian delegation within its framework.
The exhibition was discovered by the president of the Committee of the Regions, Mark Markkula, stating that the traditional culture of Latvia is like a precious stone, whose magnificence and diversity will now be able to be assessed by more people: “thanks to the Latvian Presidency in the European Union, Latvia's name is often attributed to various political issues, but now the whole of Europe has reason to talk about the cultural wealth created by Latvian artists.” The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Latvia to the European Union, Ilze Juhansson, stressed that it is the area where we can be the most proud of the achievements and success of our compatriots. “In addition, the exhibition is not only artistic, but also gives the people of other countries a better understanding of the lives and work of the podiers in Rezekne municipality, Latgale and Latvia.”
The exhibitions were also welcomed by visitors. Evija Samsonov, who has been working as a linguist and lawyer in the European Parliament, acknowledged that he had said, “The exhibition was very rich – the photographs of beautiful and Latgale sounds, real and profound Latgale ceramic articles and films with great views of Latvia and people. I liked it very much and i was glad that this particular sense of Latgale could be brought to Brussels. '
The exhibition was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union of Latvia, the permanent representation of the Republic of Latvia in the European Union, the Committee of European Regions and the municipality of Rezekne.
