Latvian and Latgalian road signs will be installed in Rezekne municipality
On 15 June, the Rēzekne municipality council members decided to support the proposal for the installation of road mark No 750 – “administrative territory name” in Latvian and Latvian.
During this year, roads of national significance located in the administrative territory of the municipality of Rezekne will be located around 35 road signs, where the name of the local government will be read in both Latvian and Latvian. The installation of road signs will be coordinated with VSIA Latvijas valsts paths.
The decision was taken in the light of the Latvian Historical Land Law, which stipulates that the State and the relevant local governments shall ensure the preservation and sustainable development of the Latgalian identity and cultural historical environment, including by promoting the acquisition of Latgalian language as a form of Latvian language, including educational institutions, and use in public events and day-to-day work, as well as by restoring and using local names in the Latgalese language, including in the guides, places and street names.
