Young people in Brussels
At the beginning of that year, a three-year award ceremony for the European Year of Youth was held AT Bērzgales parish. Of the nine nominations, the most expected results for the nomination “the most active parish 2018”. We were pleasantly surprised and thrilled to hear that our parish had acquired 1 st in this nomination. We were pleased with the work done, as we were active in the youth centre throughout the year, organising various activities, as well as actively participating in both their own and other parish, municipality and international activities. Having survived the first pleasant wave of excitement, we realized that we had won the main prize, a trip to Brussels. We looked forward to the beginning of our adventure.
On September 20, enthusiasm and energy met at Rogovka's youth centre. With a little nervous about the size of the bags and a couple of times over their contents, we went to Riga. On this trip, the ten most active young people OF Nautrēnu parish, the head of the youth centre Dina Skopkāne and the Rēzekne county youth affairs specialist Bistrova. On the way, we found that most young people were flying for the first time. There was also a level of stress. When the plane landed, everyone was relieved. Our accommodation was 60 kilometres from the airport! By that time we got a bus. Around 2.00 we settled in the rooms and went to peace.
In the morning, enthusiastic wanted to see Brussels as soon as possible. Near our hostel was the park le botanique, which was our first sight. There were various sculptures and buildings in the city with a sophisticated architecture. One of our destinations was the sculptural fountain “Churning boy” or the Brussels manikin. This bronze sculpture is only 30 cm high and is one of the city symbols and tourist attractions. We visited a variety of churches that were enough in this city. There was a shop on each corner where Belgian chocolates and knives were sold. The streets could feel the sweet smell of Belgian wafers. We had, of course, the first day that we enjoyed these celebrations in Brussels. In an enthusiastic look at the city, we went into Souvenir shops every time.
When the day was on the side, a little tired but adventurous, we decided to see the city more widely using electric shoppers. All this idea seemed interesting, so we each took a scooter and went on a journey across the streets of Brussels. After a 40-minute trip, we were at the endpoint. The object of our inspection was the “Atomium” metal molecule - exactly 102 metres high of nine metal bullets. In the molecule we looked at the city's panorama, we knew the history of molecules and knew the reproduction of the city's most famous architectural and cultural monuments. The wickers also went to a museum of art, located in a nearby area. It was evening and we went to a local food store to make dinner together. During the evening, we played table games in the hostel and shared the impression of what we had seen.
On the second day, walking around the city, we had an idea to go to the battle park Jump XL. At first, fearful, then more courageous, we tried all the activities they offered. The most fun seemed to be a free fall in the airbag. A little rested, we went to the panoramic cart with the metro. A breathless view of the vast and delightful landscape of the city opened from it. The height of this wheel is 60 metres and is one of the world's largest mobile or mobile wagons in the world. It was already in Paris, Birmingham, Manchester and Amsterdam. As we walked back to the hostel, we walked back to the hostel, continuing to know the city on the way.
We woke up early the next day. The soldiers got together and went to the European Parliament (EP) building. We looked at Parliament's museum. We knew the history of Europe, we learned more about how THE EP meetings, which are aimed AT THE EP's activities, and which MEPs represent Latvia. The amount of information obtained was very large. Resting, we went to say goodbye to the beautiful city, because this was our last evening in Brussels. The city looked different at night, a beautiful illuminated building and a pleasant atmosphere of us in the last excursion.
It was the last day to spend in that country. In the meantime, while we were in Brussels, we were crowded with new information and emotions. We arranged our belongings and said goodbye to our Brussels home. Then we went to Parliament's building again because we didn't get everything to look at the last day. It was soon time to go to the airport to go home.
The impressions, the sunlight, the new experience, came back to our favorite Latvia, where the autumn made me know. The green leaves had begun to be painted and the damp breeze had already gone out of the plane. It took several days to “sit down” and we could all return to the usual daily rhythm.
A huge thank-you for the organisers and a group of travellers who gave this opportunity to live, live, see, hear and feel all the heart.
