Many hunters wait for the opening of the duck hunting season. Increased attention is also paid to controlling institutions on this day. On 13 August, the “Luban Wetlands” was held jointly by the National Forest Service, the Nature Protection Administration and the State Police Reidi for the control of hunting regulations and regulations for the use and protection of specially protected natural areas.
The Senior Nature Protection Officer of the Latgale Regional Administration of Latgale, Dainis Tučs notes that one of the test tasks is to keep the water bird hunting in the absence of lead-containing ammunition. He pointed out that it was in the duck hunting that he was shooting the most skimming. One cartridge contains approximately 30 g of lead and a hunter shot several cartridges through one bird. The bird had only a few scraps. The others fall down or fall into the water. The waterfowl is read because they hold them either for food or stone. As a result, poisoning birds and the harmful substance are contaminated by land and water. The prohibition on the use of lead-containing projectiles shall be determined by the conditions for the use and protection of specially protected areas. This applies not only to Luban wetlands. It is also an international requirement.
The head of the control and supervision sector Dagnis Vasilevskis said that the opening of the season in the “Luban wetlands” area was relatively calm this year, although there has been no complete failure. Several hunters used lead-containing ammunition. In three cases, administrative proceedings are proposed.
Hunters should take into account that, in accordance with the hunting rules, on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 13 August to 14 September, on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and from 15 September to 30 November each day.
