International conference on effective support for improving the energy efficiency of residential buildings

On 30 September of that year, an international conference will be held in Riga, “or possible effective support mechanisms for energy efficiency improvement measures of residential buildings?”. Improving the energy efficiency of buildings is an ongoing problem throughout Latvia. This is a matter of both the energy independence of Latvia, the efficient and environmentally friendly use of resources and the social security of many households.

Currently, approximately 60% of thermal energy consumed in multi-apartment buildings is natural gas imported from Russia. Energy efficiency indicators in the residential buildings sector are very weak, as most buildings are built over the period from 1945 to 1990. Households in Latvia consume twice more energy (and hence a larger share of their income) than the average in the European Union. This creates an additional burden for both the national economy and the households themselves.

Although the Baltic States were in similar situations after the independence of independence, various support mechanisms for improving the energy efficiency of buildings have been used in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Consequently, the results achieved are also different. There is currently an active work on support mechanisms in Latvia to promote the insulation of buildings in the coming years.

At the conference, experts will share their experience with support mechanisms used in Latvia, Estonia and Finland to improve energy efficiency, as well as to offer their vision of future solutions.

In turn, a discussion of experts, public organisations and representatives of Latvian political parties on improvement of the energy efficiency of residential buildings will be held in the second part of the event.

The event will be held at the trade union house, Knights Street 29/31, 2 nd floor hall. Conference start at 10:00.

All interested parties are invited to apply for a conference by 12:00 a.m. on 29 September. You can log in to the event form on the fonda website www.bsf-latvija.lv or email info @bsf-latvija.lv.

The conference takes place within the framework of the project “Energy Efficiency of Buildings – Resource Economy and Environment” and is organised by the Freedom and Solidarity Fund (BSF) with the support of the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Latvian Green Movement.
