International conference – innovative business week
S. g. On 15-17 June, a European-wide innovative business conference “Financial Instruments for Research, Innovation and Business 2015” will be held in Riga, which will bring together senior financial policy makers, financial intermediaries, innovation experts and entrepreneurs together in Latvia.
“Access to finance plays an important role in the future growth of the European Union economy. Investments in commercial activities make it possible to increase economic efficiency and competitiveness by providing a faster upstream,” says Ministry of Economics Dana Reizniece–Ozola. “One of the factors hindering the growth of business activity is limited access to working and capital funding, so it is important for Europe to find new financial support instruments that will contribute to the growth of both small and medium-sized enterprises and the emergence of new businesses, particularly innovative and potentially fast-growing,” emphasizes D.Reizniece-oak.
The Innovative Business Week conference will be an important event of the Latvian Presidency, the main focus of which will be the European Union's investment policy and support for entrepreneurship. The conference will discuss the availability of EU funding for research, innovation and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises. Particular attention will be paid to interactions between the Funds, their use at national and local level.
The conference will be opened by Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma, the European Commission's Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Carlos Moedas will participate in the conference, presenting EU financial instruments to support innovation. In the current eurozone situation, the Vice-President of the European Commission for Euro and Social Dialogue Valdis Dombrovskis will be provided, while work on THE EU investment plan is written by the Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, Pim van Ballekom.
It is planned that an agreement will be signed between the European Commission and the European Investment Bank on new financial instruments in the European Union's science and research programme Horizon 2020.
“The time when Latvia has developed a new institutional model for the effective support of entrepreneurship through financial instruments coincides with the agenda of the European Commission and the Latvian Presidency - the promotion of innovation-based EU economic growth. The conference, bringing together Europe's brightest business, financial and scientific minds, will contribute to improving investment policy in Europe,” says Roland Paņko, Chairman of the Latvian Development Financial Institution Altum.

The conference will take place in Riga, at Radisson Blu Daugava Hotel (ship street 24). The conference is organised by the Ministry of Economics of Latvia in cooperation with the Ministry of Development Finance Institutions Altum, the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, the European Investment Fund and the Latvian Presidency OF the COUNCIL of LATVIA.
