On the stage of the national theatre, Anne Ranāne's play premiered.
On December 4, the first show of the Latvian National Theatre was directed by the film “Bishumata and wolf-eyes” of Anne Ranance. It is a story of life in Latgale border. About the past, still alive. For lies, everyday and crazy desire for love. After love, who is the only one who can fulfill such an intolerable life.
“The basic theme of the play is the border.” A boundary that itself can disassemble its built-in line. The boundary between life and death, among the dead who can still be affected. The flowering time that has stamped us unborn. The boundary between dreams and reality, between maximalism and modesty, ultimately between faith and belief, ”says the director Valdis Lūriņš.
“The place where the heroes of the play might have met is not quite certain, perhaps it is the small border town of Carver with his ever famous cafe“ Kariba ”, and it might also be Vilaka, where the only petrol tank was finished in the early 20 th century. It might be Zilupe or Piedruja, but it is not important, it is only the line of this border on the geographical map and the sense of border in people. Distance from the centre that creates a peripheral sensation. Loneliness, exclusion, low-value complexes, trying to be better, because then you will be loved. The dream of a warm hand in yours, though only in the last century of the 70 s-80 s,“ Kalimbamba … ”, which was also a good way of expressing her first feelings and sympathy awkwardly, is written by the author Anna Ranāne.
Actress Maria Berzins is the main character of the play Alda. She embodies the image of a beekeeper, a woman who tries to be strong enough to save not only her life but her family and fellow people.
The first-performance visitors admitted that “Bishumate and wolves” were a painful and visible show that makes you think. “The border without people is like a loop in the country around the neck,” one of the heroes says during the show – this is a message that everyone should keep in mind.
It should be noted that Anne Ranāne's play won 2 nd place in the Latvian national theatre competition competition, which took place in the summer of 2015 with financial support from the National Cultural Capital Foundation's target programme “Latvia – 100”. In the 1 st place, Artur Ditch's play “Fairing Travolta” in Regnar Vaivard was released in spring 2017.
