On 13 November – during the period between Lāčplēsis Day and the day of independence of the Republic of Latvia – traditionally in the municipality of Rezekne, the heads of the Rēzekne municipality and Viļānu are led by the teams of primary pupils to find out the best eruditions in the game “my Latvia”. This time, 17 teams participated in the competition, which led to a number of contests, including, answered questions about the Rēzekne and Viļānu nodes, about Latvia's history, culture and sport, recognized government ministers who had just been approved, and similar to TV3's play “I love you, Latvia”, set the city's location on the Latvian map.

The participants acknowledged that one of the most difficult tasks had been to find answers to the hostile questions previously sent by other schools, because it is not everyone who can remember that 900 years since Latgale was mentioned in the Nestor Chronic, or that the first U.S. President, who visited Latvia, was Bill Clinton in 1994.

In the course of the competition, the knowledge of teachers was also examined. The questions prepared for teachers would be a solid nut not only for a long-term erudite, for example, “who is the largest millstone in Latvia?” (the correct answer – Aagala or Pāvilosta big stone), “what is the average air temperature in Latvia?” (6.1 degrees) or “how thick is the earth crust in Latvia?” (50-55 km). As for several previous years, Andrejs Zahars from the New Jerusalem School remained unsuccessful in the teacher competition.

In the middle of the school teams this year, the fight was intense, as 1 st place from 3 rd place was separated by an incomplete point. In total, the 3 rd place was won by the team of the Central School of Verham, 2 nd place ranked IN THE first team of Maltas secondary school, while the 1 st place was won by the New Virgin primary school team (Christian Kebe, Raivis Razgalis, League Kigitovich, Ilyja Jershav and Martin Komps). A teacher Andrejs Zahars was prepared for the pupils. He told me that, in preparation for the competition, children had viewed not only history and various factual books, but also read local press and Internet portals to learn more about the current events in the world, Latvia and Rezekne municipality.

The participants of the prize contest received gifts, sweets, as well as books and magazines “illustrated history” and “illustrated junior” from the publishing house “daily journals”.
