Students of Class 1 of the Primary School of Verthema familiarise Italy with the project within a week
We learned, prepared and worked — in three words, we could describe the project of the 1 st class of the Primary School in the week. Under the direction of the class nurse Gunita Kisewa, class 1 pupils worked on the theme “Italy” within the project week. Although it initially seemed that the chosen topic would be too complex for seven-year-old boys and girls, the carefully planned work, including the involvement of parents in collecting and compiling material, proved the opposite.
The pupils, together with the teacher, learned the names of numbers and colours in Italian, recognized the most beautiful cities in Italy, the historical sites, reading descriptions, watching and painting pictures, sharing their travel impressions. To strengthen and complement her knowledge of Italy, its culture, the eating habits, the pupils, along with the class nurse, Gunita, went to THE ARPC “Zeimuļs” to meet the volunteer from the Italian Tamara Cafah. Under the direction of this attractive and active girl, the pupils were preparing a real Italian pizza and a sweet meal. Each had the opportunity to take part in the cooking process, both by rolling the dough and by stirring the eggs and cutting the chocolate. While in the oven, the pizza and the refrigerator rested tiramisoos, Tamara showed the pupils how and what masks Italians were doing for carnival. The unfamiliar joy was for the pupils when they enjoyed the delicious food. With full belly, the experience gained, and a nice mood, the pupils relaxed from the hospitable Tamara to complete the mask in the school.
As they approached the end of the project week, the pupils gathered information together with the class nurse, creating a stand-up photo for the corner. In this way, enabling any school pupil to choose a carnival mask and take a picture of the Italian background. By presenting the project week, boys and girls of class 1, together with teacher Gunita, went to Italy in an improvised air balloon, telling the school director, teachers and other children about this wonderful and colorful South European country. Mona Lisa, Pisa Tower, Colombia, Venezia, Rome, gondolas – Class 1 pupils of the Primary School are not abstract words. They know it's Italy.
This week of projects showed that, when active and creative working, students of class 1 with interest and enthusiasm can be involved in a wide-ranging study of the world.
Thanks to Mr Paurai, Director of the School of Verthema, for his support, ARPC “Zeimuļs” for the youth affairs department, I. Ontužai, on the coordination of the event, Tamara Cafah, on the responsiveness. Thank the teacher Gunita Kissey for creativity, gumption and encouragement!
