Dricānu church house
The church house of the Dricāni Saints Apostles Simeon and Jude Roman Catholic Church is a cultural place created to preserve the historical evidence of the Dricāni parish and parish, popularize the local cultural heritage, and invite visitors to explore this wealth of Dricāni.
In the church house association , the "Maziča" association has created an exhibition "They Served in Dricāni", dedicated to the activities of the priests of the Dricāni Church from the 19th century to the present day. Summarizing what has been researched so far, a visual timeline has been created that allows the visitor to the exhibition to trace the history of the formation of the Dricāni Church and the activities of the priests from the 19th century to the present day. The factual information in the exhibition is "revived" by video stories, which visitors can watch on a TV screen or on their smart device from the "Maziča" association. youtube.com in the channel.
The exhibition is beautifully complemented by individual samples of liturgical clothing from the Dricāni and Piļcine churches, the oldest of which dates back to the end of the 18th century. These garments were studied and notes on their production were taken by Aija Jansone, Head of the Ethnography Department of the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum, during the Latgale expedition in the summer of 2023. Visitors are offered a unique opportunity to view these ancient garments and explore the needlework techniques used in the making of liturgical garments, types of fabrics, and symbols that adorn liturgical textiles.
You can find out more about the exhibition in the article on the Latgalian cultural news portal lakuga.lv. “Drycānūs apsaverama pastuoveiga ekspoziceja par katuoļu bazneicys viesturi”.
Visitors to the exhibition are guided through the labyrinths of the exhibition, telling about both the exhibits on display and the history of Dricāni through the ages. A creative workshop is offered to the youngest visitors to the exhibition. Visitors can feel like a costume artist and, using various handicraft techniques (painting, coloring, gluing with beads and diamonds), create one of the symbols seen in liturgical costumes - a dove, a lily, etc. - on design paper made by the Creative Farm “Leiceiši”, which is made from recycled paper. Visitors can also visit the Dricāni Church next to the church House.
The Dricāni church House is a place where you can learn about the history of Latgale through the cultural and historical heritage of one parish's past, look into the mystical world of liturgical symbols, listen to historical stories and legends, so that at the end of this impressive "journey" you can sincerely rejoice in the strength of the Dricāni people "then" and also "now".
