Low-ice fishing competitions in Ilzeskaln on Lake Stogorschen
While the spring sunk had not ruined the last ice of ice from Latgale's blue waters, on Sunday, 22 February, a great crowd of fishermen gathered at the Sgorr Lake. The large-scale catchers were both Ilzeskalna and Bērzgales parish, from Rezekne, from Dricāniem, Vērēmiem and even from Riga, large and small. With the various fishing equipment, with boxes and buckets armed, the cops went to ice. The fish at that moment, as far as they could understand, fled deeper into the mud, because no big catch could be taken. It was nothing but it was a fun Sunday. By summarising the results, the most successful turned out to be the local resident Aivars Bumbeš. The second place was Konstantin Jefimov, the third – Peter Berezovsky. Aivars knew that the secret of a successful cops was the real words to be whispered by the chalk, Constantine said that the whole secret was patience, but Peter said, smiling, that the ricky fishermen would only reveal their success stories after the end of the season …
