New Company of the Year – 2017
1. Economist Anina's economic activity “Ana strawberries”
The Atticus Anins was expecting the Commission to be proud of the strawberry. There is an area of 2 ha of strawberry plantations. The master tells him that it is life to focus on strawberry-growing, because growing up in a large family of children in Kurzeme, the family had to learn to earn more than his parents were able to take care of. So Mum had begun to grow strawberries, and then, as a teenager, he had seen that the strawberries had an idea that it was a product that was bought and bought. When he was married in Latgale (Gaigalavas parish), he had begun to grow strawberries for a long time. The first 0.2 ha strawberry plantations were performed in spring 2016. The entire family has been involved in the planting process. Strawberry plantations are carefully cleaned and modern technological solutions are also introduced, namely strawberries are covered with agro-film and each axle is provided with a watering system. The master tells and shows that two types of film are used – one that is moisture permeable, but when the strawberries are planted, each plant must have a hole in the film at the appropriate location, and this results in quite time-consuming and physically harder. As a solution for more efficient planting, the farm is currently attempting to use a film that has already industrially created holes or places for plant planting, and a significant advantage that it is conveniently placed with tractor technique. However, this film is not water-permeable and therefore the watering system has to be installed under it.
When asked about what strawberry varieties are grown, Anins says several varieties, but adds that there has not yet been a corroboration of the advantages of a particular variety. Strawberry plants are mainly purchased outside Latvia and one of the shopping markets is called France. The master is currently experimenting and, in view of the bad weather in 2017, it is difficult to judge the productivity of existing plantations, but hopes for success in the coming years.
2. Canteens' morning“owner” Rasma Germane (Bērzgales parish) tells the Commission how the idea of your business has come. In particular, the catering sector has been active since 1998. Eight years before the opening of his cafe, he worked AT Bērzgales at school for a cook. The work has continued, but it is understood that the best decision to provide a job and regular income is to create a catering service. In collaboration with THE Bērzgales parish administration, premises were provided for the emerging cafe. In 2016, in the framework of the project competition, financial support for the purchase of production facilities and equipment was received from the foundation “Rural Economic Development in Rezekne District”, as well as the change of windows.
The dining house in Berzgale works every day, offers lunch at the canteen rooms, and also covers tables on exits. In addition, a department at the High School of Arts of Rezekne is established. 3 employees are employed, 1 employee for 2 years is linked to the activities of the State Agency for Employment. Plans to attract another employee.
Bērzgales parish administration manager Arvīds Dunskis tells him that the canteen services are regularly used by local residents, parish administration employees, as well as lunchtime travel by police, “distribution networks” etc., who perform their duties in the immediate vicinity. Much good reviews have been received about the quality of the canteen's “morning” service.
The individual merchant Rasma Germane, in response to the Commission's questions, says that the raw materials are provided both from local farmers and from other partners – SIA “Sanitex”, Rēzekne meat kombate, SIA “old baker” and other food companies mainly located in Rezekne.
