March 16 – World Social Work Day

Since 2007, on the third Tuesday of March, a social working day is celebrated worldwide. Every year, the achievements of social work, the visibility of social services and social services, the human rights and social justice of different groups of society are highlighted.

As well as the sixth year, Latvia celebrates this day with the attention of the public, the social work profession – its nature, challenges and achievements. The main theme of this year's global social agenda is “I am, because we are” – a concept and philosophy that reflects the perspective of social work – the interconnection of human and global environment.


Social working day is a moment when social work and professionals working in it are particularly highlighted. More than 1300 the daily work of Latvian social workers is to listen, help, support and encourage, to be in adjacent moments, which are often the moments of despair and confusion. It is a significant day in the social work calendar, which is celebrated by social workers around the world, reflecting the contribution of the profession to strengthening human, family, Community and wider society.
