The winter service of the road operator will also operate in day-to-night mode

THE Winter Service of VAS “Latvian Road Operator” will also operate in day-to-night mode in order to ensure the operation of the state motorway operatively. Throughout the national territory, the situation on road condition is monitored by 32 winter service deputies. When determining conditions that are not conforming to the specified maintenance class - snow, icing, the organisation of work is initiated.   

The decision to commence the work of the winter service shall be taken by the winter service detainees based on the actual road surface condition and weather forecasts. The main work of the winter season is the treatment of road carriageways from snow and slope reduction, including preventive scattering. Drivers must take into account that the weather conditions may change rapidly in winter, so that the road carriageway may also be slippery after the slipping reduction works have been carried out.

National roads are maintained in accordance with specified maintenance classes A, A1, B, C and D, so that the status of road carriageways between different maintenance classes may vary considerably. Winter maintenance classes are given both in terms of road traffic intensity and road surface - asphalt, gravel.

We call on drivers to comply with the principles of safe driving in winter conditions – to choose the driving speed, distance and driving style appropriate to the road surface. For dangerous situations on national roads, we are invited to inform THE VAS “Latvian State Roads” traffic information centre by calling a day-to-day free telephone 8000 5555.

Reminding that road maintenance works in online mode can be followed by VAS “Latvian State Roads” on the website of the website (www.lvceli.lv), as well as the “Waze” application, where it is possible to inform the state of the national road.

THE LAU is carried out by almost 200 different daily maintenance works on national roads. The total length of the national road to be maintained is more than 20 000 km, of which 9 129 km of road are with black cover and 10 989 km are gravel motorways, as well as daily maintenance works are carried out on more than 900 bridges.
