In conclusion, the International Project is approaching “the creation of the Latvian-Russian cross-border tourism route“ following engineering ideas ”, which was launched at the end of 2019. As a result of the project, a new 620 km long tourism route is created, leading through the Rēzekne municipality (Luznava), the Pleskava district (Pļussa) and the Leningrad area (play), which will be interesting for both local travellers and those who travel from Europe to Saint Petersburg.

Tourists can familiarise themselves with the industrial heritage of the 19 th century, thereby better understanding the development and history of society. The new route shows that time engineering solutions have been so advanced that they are also used today.

As a result of the development and realization of the idea, the project manager, Cynthia Batare, pointed out that as early as 2017, representatives of the municipality of Rēzekne and the Council of the City Council (Russia) met in the St Petersburg project partners search forum and realized that both municipalities had a lot of joint projects. “However, the main - representatives of both municipalities, in terms of the industrial heritage of the 19 th century, were able to say“ our Kerbedzs ”and“ our Kerbedza ”bridges, as the Polish-born engineer, Stanislav Kerbedzs (1810 –1899), was associated with both Lūznavas estate, which he had acquired, and had been studying and working on engineering projects in Russia and not only,” said Batare.

The project partners for the new tourism route selected information in both Latvian information sources and Russian archives. It is known that following the abolition of birth in Russia in the second half of the 19 th century, people were free to move, the cities and industry developed. In the 1860 –1870 s, the construction of a large rail network and bridges between the Russian Empire and Baltic Sea ports began. One of the most familiar engineers was Kerbedzs. During the project, THE activities of Lūznavas estate owner, railway engineer and professor S.Kerbedza were investigated in these countries. His design bridges can still be seen in both Rezekne and Saint Petersburg.

Similarly, tourists have the opportunity to see the objects created and restored during the project in Russia – a squad in Pļussa, which was created for the Honorary Cristman, Pāvelam Buré (1810-1882), while emphasising the performance of engineer and submarine designer Nikolai Kudrjavceva (1857-1900), a well-equipped recreational area at the Lake of Cheremenecka.

One of the results of the project and tourist route sites – the interactive exhibition “Kerbedzs: following engineering ideas”, located AT Lūznavas in the manor cocolate. The permanent exhibition was celebrated on December 4, with the participation of both the exhibition designer Didzim Jaunzemam and the exhibitors in life IN SIA “SOLAVI”. “We are proud that we have a Lūznavas manor that still feels the spirit of Kerbedza and whose employees are very interested in keeping historical evidence of the time they lived and worked in the Kerbedza family,” said Batare.

The exhibition of the interactive exhibition can be acquainted with the projects and achievements of the engineer Kerbedza. The hologram room is a place where 360 degrees can see different objects and images associated with Loznavu and civil engineering. On the other hand, in a classroom, like an unusual course of physics or history, visitors can meet both bridges, tunnels and railways, and physics laws that affect construction and the difficulties that engineers had to overcome. In a classroom, every interested party is invited to verify its enthusiasm in engineering fields, as well as skills in building bridges and other structures.

The Manor Manager Iveta Balzer emphasizes that THE Lūznavas manor is known with new approaches: “we are innovators, as Kerbedzs had ever been, this exhibition brings TOGETHER STEM field, technology, business and design. We call on teachers and pupils to experience a combination of historical heritage and engineering sciences available at this exhibition!

The project has been created by co-operation of the municipality of Rezekne with the autonomous non-profit organisation “Resource Centre“ VERA ”and the Pļusas District Administration from Russia.
