In Latvia, after 2021 municipal elections, there will be 42 municipalities in place of the current 119 local governments. It is provided for by the Law on Administrative Territories and Territories, which entered into force on 23 June 2020. The work of the new municipal council will be launched in July 2021. The administrative territorial reform foresees the merger of three existing provinces - the municipality of Rezekne, the municipality of Varaklans and THE municipality OF Viļānu, forming a new administrative area called Rezekne municipality.

The draft administrative structure of the municipality of Rezekne shall be drawn up by 1 June 2021. Discussions and regular meetings OF ZOOM with local government presidents, executive directors, project coordinators shall be held in order to develop a draft administrative structure of the co-ordinated municipality of Rezekne.

In order to take decisions, at the beginning of April a joint project of the administrative structure of the newly formed municipality of Rezekne was established in the Commission of 11 participants. As the head of the Commission, the chairman of the Rēzekne District Council Montweed Schwartz, members of the Commission - Vice-President of Rezekne District Council, Elhusband Pizane, executive director of the municipality of Rezekne, Janis Troška, Chairman of the municipality of Varaklans, Maris Justs, Executive Director of the municipality of Varaklans, Ivars Ikaunieks, Viļānu council chairman Jekaterina Ivanova, 1 TP5T council Chairman Andris Stafeckis, head of the project manager Andris Stafeckis, project co-ordinator Aija Szucka, project coordinator Cynia Upeniece, project coordinator.

On Friday, April 9, a joint draft of the draft administrative structure of the newly formed municipality of Rezekne was organised, the Commission meeting, which decided on the future performance of the institutions, the division of higher-level bodies and lower-level bodies. The organisation of meetings of the working groups with Heads of Central Administration or experts of the relevant field in the local government was decided. Employees from Rezekne, Varakļana and Viļānu will be informed of the events of the meetings, as well as the opportunity to participate in meetings with representatives of local government management.
