Lipuškos will be dismantled by Soviet-mode praising monument

Mākoņkalna parish administration has informed that Lipuškos is the subject of Soviet regimes. In fulfilling the Law on the prohibition of exponentiment and dismantling of Soviet and nacist regimes in the territory of the Republic of Latvia, THE administration of THE parish OF Mākoņkalna is obliged to dismantle the monument.

The monument is located on the land of the local government, but it is indicated that there is no burial site. The monument was installed and opened on 8 May 1977, reproduced in two parts of a broken concrete ring, with a granite plate placed in the centre of the fracture, and sixty-two-person names: “remember!” They agreed to release THE SOVIET HOMELAND, and the names were listed below. Author of the monument project - Rezekne District Architect I.Sapurov.

The ideological message of the monument is based on the intention of the author of the project to proclaim the ideology of Communism and to defeat the hatred using the commemoration of the fallen Lipušku.

In accordance with the requirements of the Law on the Prohibition and Dismantling of Exponent Objects of Soviet and Nazis regimes in the territory of the Republic of Latvia ”, it is prohibited to exhibit monuments, memorial signs, memorial plates, memorial places and other objects located in the territory of Latvia since 1940 and fulfil at least one of the following criteria in the public outdoor, public building or internal space of a public person (except accredited museums):

  • the power of the occupation of THE USSR or the Nazi German occupation, the event or person associated with it;
  • praise totalitarianism, violence, military aggression, war and war ideology;
  • includes Soviet power or nacism symbols.

The National Cultural Heritage Board has issued a decision that a monument located in Lipuškos is to be dismantled without any fragments, because it meets the above criteria, it is regarded as an object of the USSR's power, which does not have artistic values.
