Rezekne municipality's sports school student Christine Georgenova – Vice-Championship of Latvia's 2023 youth chess championship

On 13-18 March 2023, Riga, a Latvian youth championship was held in Riga, where 117 boys and girls took part. The competitions were spent in six age groups from U-8 to U-18 for both boys and girls.

Boys played by circular system of 10 finalists in each age group, while girls had a different format because of the different number of participants. The competition in all age groups was played with time control for 90 minutes of the party. The International Classic Chess Rating was counted in all groups.

Two girls from Maltas Christine Geornova (g-16) and Miroslava Nagle (g-12) took part in the Rēzekne municipality.

 G-12 Group Results:

  1. place – Lauma Mieriņa (I sports class, rating 1188, Riga) 7,5 points;
  2. place - Daria Guminskaya (Class I, rating 1136, Riga) 7 points;
  3. place - Milana Gailevska (I sports class, rating 1246, Daugavpils) 6.5 points.

 Miroslava, which was the 16 th place of the first Latvian-wide competition, 3 points.

G-16 Group Results:

  1. place - Milan Louise Janson (Class I, rating 1555, Riga) 5,5 points;
  2. place - Christine Georgia (Class II, rating 1289, Rezekne municipality, Malta) 4,5 points;
  3. place - Žanette Klusha (Class I, rating 1166, Rezekne) 4 points.

Christine Georgia has thus won the right to represent Latvia at the European Youth Championship, which will take place between 4 and 15 September in Romanian resort in Main.

Christine Geornova also received the approval of a judge of the Latvian Chess Federation national category (NA) (2023).
