The castle is a standalone hill on the north bank of the western end of the lake of Salāja, near the outlet of the Maltas river from the Lake Salāja. A mountain-oriented mountain stands 27 m above the lake level. The castle slopes are equally steep, only on the east side they are cheaper. A local businessman and a statue of Our Lady, who testifies to the belief of Latgale's people in God's mother Mary, the mother of Christ, and the belief of the existence of God.
