At the Rēzekne Technology Academy on April 28, 2017, a forum for “sustainability factors and preservation of natural values in Latvia for the next hundreds of years” will be held at 13.00 (at the release alley 115). It is organised at the historic date of Latgale Congress, implementing the activity of the Latvian Environment Protection Fund Multisectorial Project “The celebration of Latvia's environment and natural values in honouring the activity of Latvia's state of existence.”
Project implementers: Rēzekne Technology Academy and Partners – Rezekne municipality, Ludza municipality, Lephen municipality, municipality of Madona municipality, association “Latvian Innovators Association” and “Biomass Technology Centre”.
The participants will be addressed by Kaspars Gerhards, Minister for Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Laimdota Straujuma, 12. Vice-President of the Commission for Sustainable Development of the Saeima, Indriatic Manor, rector of Latvia University and Edmunds Turumnieks, rector of the Rēzekne Technology Academy. The historic and contemporary accent of Latgale Congress will be provided by the Academy of Latvian Academy of Sciences, Jānis Stradins.
The second part of the forum will present the main focus of the project “Sustaining the sustainability of Latvia – educated people and the preservation of natural values – in the conferences held during the implementation of the centuries of Latgale Congress in Rēzekne, Ludza, Madona and the topics discussed in Livans, characterisation of the current situation analysis, the most important opinions expressed by experts and recommendations for the development of quality regional policy in Latvia and Latgale.
Following the presentation of the project, a high-level expert commentary session will be followed, which will outline possible national sustainable development scenarios, the necessary steps to be taken to ensure that the proposals made in conferences are implemented in a long-term perspective.
At the time of the forum, the exhibition “Natural” dedicated to the decade of Razna National Park and the natural values will also be revealed.
The event concludes with a concert where musical performances will be provided by the Chorus of the Rēzekne Technology Academy, the Rēzekne, Ludza, Madona and Livani District folklore.
More than a hundred participants – academics and research institutions – will participate in the forum, 12. Saeima deputies, heads of sectoral ministries, municipal leaders, entrepreneurs, representatives of nature protection and environmental protection institutions, economic, financial and regional development experts, doctorate and students.
