On June 9, the SIA “Urban Services” campaign “Plogging: You're a hero” will be launched with a large Plogging run. The event will take place in the vicinity of the Luban Lake in Luban Lake, Luban Wetlands Information Centre, at 11:00. The plogging run is called upon to apply for both children and young people and adults, experienced runners and beginners.
The plogging run will be organized on four different routes:

  • Aiviekstes River route - 7 km
  • Beacon route - 8 km
  • Turumnieki route - 6 km
  • Luban route - 2.5 km (extended route to bird-watching tower 14 km)

Running in each of the tracks will take place in guides and will be provided with all the necessary equipment - T-shirts, garbage bags and gloves. The finishing of the collected waste will take place and all the participants will be rewarded with a delicious loch in the picnic area, as well as playing games with environmental themes, spending time on natural and good music.
Plogging is a new environmentally friendly Fitness Trends that combines the slow running of the train with the collection of waste. The beginning of the plogging movement is to be found in Sweden, where it was established in 2016 by a trail runner and an environmental enthusiast Erik Ahlström. As a result of the problem of environmental pollution in society, this innovative movement has become global, getting popularity among both environmental activists and Fitness enthusiasts and active lifestyles. Currently, more than 40 countries have joined the Plogging movement, including Latvia, where “urban service” has become the official language of this movement.
The popularity and attractiveness of the plogging movement lies in its simplicity. There are no specific rules for this sport: it does not matter how often and long you run, how much and what waste you collect every time, because each, even the smallest effort is from weight. Unlike many other sports, it does not require a sports club subscription, a very expensive equipment – everything that is necessary is a sports suit, gloves, a waste bag and a desire to make a positive contribution to the environment of the environment, “explains SIA“ urban service ”board member Jurģis Ugors.
A supporter of the plogging movement, Chairman of the Board of VAS “Latvian Road Operator” Raitis Nešpors says: "The concern about cleanliness of the environment is also our one of the directions of activity. Each year, we have concluded that the quantity of waste disposed of is constant. They are collected over a year at a cost of 400 000 thousand euros. Plastic bags, paper, bottles, and inhabitants often use the possibility of disposing of household waste to waste containers at bus stops. In addition, the roadsides are also covered with construction and large-gauge waste. If the habitants were to be placed in places intended for them, the cost of collection of waste by road operator could be channelled to more efficient road maintenance works, such as approximately 10 kilometres of gravel road to double surface treatment, making them a black cover. I call on the people to treat the environment in a gentle manner, not to strike the roadside and to place municipal waste in the places that are intended for them. '
“We, a group of Lebanese stakeholders, or in simple words, the Aborian tribe, have been working with the waste collection for several years without knowing that a special name Ploggings is meant for this crime.” We call on us to join us on 9 June so that this symbolic event will understand the importance of Plogging in the field of environmental cleansing and the improvement of their health, physical form, combining these two activities in one. In this place, at Luban Lake, where our history of Latvia began in the stone age, we will be honoured to see you in order to move towards a common goal of a clean and healthy environment around us! “calls on the representative of the association“ Aborians ”Maris Valainis.
Urban service on the website (www.pilsetvide.lv) a special plogging section on Plogging has been created, in which people can find more detailed information about this movement, as well as follow up and login to plogging runs. In order to log on to Luban Lake, residents are invited to fill in the form of the application in this section, indicating their age and the desired route.
In order to avoid environmental pollution, the participants of the event are invited to arrive at picnic with their multi-use dishes!
