Invites schools to participate in the world's largest school hour
The world's biggest lesson is an international education promotion that will take place at the same time in almost hundreds of world countries. It aims at connecting children and young people around the world to provide advice and participate in the achievement of sustainable development goals, which ARE confirmed by UN countries on 25-27 September, through joint education and presentation of global challenges. The world's largest school hour in Latvia is supported and coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia and UNESCO Latvian National Commission (LNK).
Global education – the world's largest school hour – will take place between 28 September and 4 October 2015, crossing different time zones and national borders. The world's largest learning hour is also thematic, covering 17 global Sustainable Development Goals divided into 7 directions:
- poverty;
- health and well-being
- education and skills for life and work;
- a fair world, promoting gender equality and peace culture;
- sustainability;
- environmental protection and global responsibility.
When preparing a school hour in Latvia, we are invited to inspire from UNESCO Latvia's treasure and get acquainted with the samples of the prepared training hour plan available www.skolas.unesco.lv.
Teachers and their learners (8-14 years of age) are invited to participate in the promotion, drawing up and implementing an hour plan – focusing on global goals, challenges and solutions, as well as sharing the work by submitting an hour plan and photo/video reports to coordinators in Latvia. All hour plans will be collected in electronic publication, while ten best translated and sent to international coordinators and published on the website.
