Since 1995, following the initiative of UNESCO on 23 April, a world book and copyright day is celebrated to honour authors and their works, to focus public attention on the importance of literature in human life and the contribution of authors to society's social and cultural progression.
In Latvia, following the suggestion of the Library Society, this day is marked since 1997 with events over a week. During the library week, a variety of activities are organized to promote books and reading, telling about their work and offers. This year, the library week will take place from 17 to 23 April with a guiding theme “library and society: a common common goal”.
The library week is the time to get acquainted with the latest books. New benefits will be offered TO their readers IN Audriņu, Gaigalavas, Griškānu, Kantinieku, Lūznavas, Maltas, Pušas, Silmalas parish libraries, Gaigalavas parish Vecjina and Silmalas parish parish libraries, Kaunatas parish 1 st library.
It is important to create an interest in books and reading from early childhood, so the libraries pay much attention to work with pre-school children, given that this age audience is the most responsive. This year, the first meeting with the library will be held IN Gaigalavas, Nautrēnu, Mākoņkalna and Sakstagala for pre-school children.

The services provided by libraries change with the request. Libraries provide advice and training in computer and Internet usage, using e-services. Nautrēnu and Gaigalavas parish libraries will provide help in filling and submitting annual income statements.
On 18 April at 13.30 Feimaņu in the parish library will be able to meet the creative team of the journal “Road to Latgali A 12”. In turn, on 19 April at 9.00 Maltas in the children's literature section of the library will be expected to meet with the doll mastare Ingona in the event of “Ingoin Radzina dolls”. IN THE Rikavas parish library, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in the discussion on the role and role of the library in society today.
The staff of the Rēzekne Region District Libraries are expected to be held on 21 April AT Maltas parish library, where a seminar for the exchange of librarian experience will take place. In 2016, the capital repairs of the library building and the renovation works of the premises were performed. The seminar programme also provides for the attendance of THE Maltas Museum of History.
