Promotion of “language talka” on the international day of the mother tongue

17.02.2016

Education

On 21 February each year, following THE UNESCO initiative, the world is celebrating the international day of the mother tongue. It aims at emphasising the diversity of languages and cultures, promoting social cohesion, tolerance and intercultural dialogue. This year, while waiting for international birthday, UNESCO's Latvian national Commission (LNK) invites everyone to know the folklore materials that have been recorded in their native place.

We call for the participation of Latvian university literature, folklore and art institute in Latvian folklore storage and UNESCO LNK jointly organized “language talka” to help folklorists decrypt ancient handwriting and notes, among which may also be found in the circle of family, relatives, or friends.
The promotion will be opened on 19 February 2016 and will be held until 30 April. School young people are particularly encouraged to participate in the campaign.
