From 15 to 26 September, THE Audriņu primary school saw a travelling exhibition “more than children's games”, which provides an insight into children in the Holocaust. The purpose of the exhibition was to raise awareness of the Holocaust tragedy. From six million Jews killed in the Holocaust, about one and a half million were children. The number of survivors is only measured in a few thousand. This exhibition is a story of survival. It reflects the efforts of children to keep up with life, as well as the tendency to preserve childhood and youth by creating a different reality.
The “Jad Washem” exhibition of the Holocaust victims and heroes' memorial complex “more than children's games” opens the window to the children's world during the disaster (Shoa). Toys, games, creative works, photos, fragments from diaries and poems are told about the feelings of children, allowing them to know what their lives were. THE students of THE Audriņu primary school had the opportunity not only to look at the exhibition, but also to watch two documentary movies that reported the fate of Hebrew children during World War Ii. The exhibition is a joint project of THE NGO “ICEJ Latvia” and the Israeli embassy in Latvia.
