Audriņu tragedy remembering events honour the commemoration of victims

On 4 January, the traditional memorial events took place in Rēzekne municipality, remembering the tragic events of 1942, when the Nazis burned THE Rēzekne District Audriņu, killed 215 inhabitants in the forest in Anchupan forests, as well as the public at the Rēzekne prison wall shot 30 Audriņu men. The sources of history indicate that the reason for the tragic events was the willingness of Nazi to punish THE population OF Audriņu, as the red arrows escaped from the Rēzekne War camp were hidden in one of the village houses.
Memorial events began on the monument in Audroos, continued in Anchupan memorial and Rezekne. Both local residents and representatives from Rezekne, Ludza and Riga participated in the events.
The Vice-President of the Rēzekne council, Elman Pizane, thanked all the participants of the memorial event who honoured the harsh pages of their hometown history: “the terrible events will live in the memories of the people while the children and grandchildren of the tragedy witnesses are alive. In 1942 it was a tragedy whose lives were lost by innocent civilians, women and children. '
Audriņu parish management head Einārs Aleksandrs Bindemanis emphasized that THE inhabitants of Audriņu are obliged to remember the tragedy that occurred: “we come here to hold the honour of the honorable people, to give the honour to the dead.” It should be remembered that civilians suffer most in the war. We must not forget these events. '
