The “beacon” is an active tourism season
On November 28, with a lusty ball and an erudition game “I love you, Latgale”, the fourth operating season of the Center for the Development of Vateralism was concluded. The competition teams had to answer various hostile questions about Latvia and Latgale, such as “how much dairy cows were in Latvia at the end of 2013?” (correct answer: 165 thousand) or “which is shown on Latgale flag” (silver griff). Similarly, the Latgalian language skills of the participants were tested – the teams had to know that the “bottom” is a thin pancake, “gryuslis” is a thicket, while the “pixel-dog” is the tip of the knife. The final of the competition was very musical, because the teams had to involve it in the song by drawing a word or verbal. The expression on the songs of the singing people was confirmed as the two teams received a maximum score of points in the final, so that both teams were summed up as the winners of the game.
The “beacon” at the centre of the Lake of Luban, a hot winter season, says “beacon” administrator Liene Duma, looking back at this year. An average of 30 to 40 people per day has been visited by the centre. Various exhibitions are also held in the centre, such as this year tourists were able to see the exhibition “Strande” of Anta Rugar and Victor Vanukov, an early Ritina exhibition “meadow” and Inga Onjevas exhibition “sprouts, grow, flower”.
"This year we have also carried out a number of projects, including the camp“ New Nature Friends ”, the Forest Days, as well as the North Latgale children's folklore cluster and creative workshops, where more than 300 children participated. “Best” visitors are also expected in winter when the centre can rent an equipment and go skating, skiing, harming or handling low-ice fishing. Last year Luban's ice at the beacon had been purified in an hectare of calves, so that the pleasure of skating could be enjoyed by anyone, without fear of running on a loser skater. Also this year, the “beacon” staff promise that there will be no shortage of space, and in addition to the emergence of a thicker snow blanket, it is planned to draw approximately 10 kilometres of ski trails across the Luban Lake, so that the most active winter sports enthusiasts can proud that they have skipped over Latvia's largest lakes.
