January is the month of barricades. Although twenty-seven years have passed, there are still people who have seen the events of the winter of 1991 and the details and details have still not been forgotten. Remembering the January events, on January 25, Verham's primary school had a meeting with a barricade struggle, Vili Decsni.
The People's Front Division organized volunteers who went to protect Latvian television in Zaķusala. Fires, warm tea, pies, freedom and independence - these words are most pronounced by the days that Vilis Deksnis spent among the barricades participants. It was worrying that Riga was approaching the Soviet army parts that the events of Vilnius could be repeated in Riga, when the army attacked the unarmed crowd of people and drove into it with tanks, killing 13 people, 140 injured. Every television keeper had to make a decision to stay on the barricades or leave. He stayed, though he had to think of his wife and his eight-month-old son. Such action is worthy of the heroic, though the party himself said that the real heroes were those who remained at home and, with great excitement, followed the news of what happened in Riga.
V. The decree is awarded with a barricade member's memorial mark.
Thank Will Decker for the interesting and binding narrative. After the end of the event, the senior class pupils and teachers continued the discussion with this heroic man to capture the atmosphere and events of that time again.
