Education

From August 8 to August 12, children and adolescents of young people took place in Berzgale.
The initiators and organisers of the camp are the children of Evija Selecka and Liana Selecka – Jones, who have also trained English abroad. She has been an English-language teacher at the Gloucestershire college summer school for several years, while Evie has delivered English-language private lessons in Barcelona, Spain.
As Liana told her, the idea of the event belonged to her sister Evie and was rounded for 2-3 years, but that year her sister got up and decided to finally implement the idea. Everything started with the creation and planning of the program, which took several months. As a result of the vote, the name of the event “Language Labyrinth” was chosen between the members of the family, or the translation “the labyrinth of the language”. The owner of the name was Mom. Then, in June, Liana, Evie and Brother Matīss in England participated in “Cheltenham Challenge 2016” sports competitions, running 21 km half marathon and 10 km distances. The aim of the run was to raise funds for the volunteer project - English-language days OF Bērzgales for children and adolescents. The event succeeded – the donors referred to many countries in the world. The largest donations were received from Australia (around 300 EURO) and the total donated amount amounted to EUR 1000. The collected funds were provided with the materials needed for lunch camp participants and activities. Teachers and managers performed volunteering.
As teachers and assistants, a family of lians and Evia were attached to the event – Mom Svetlana, brother Matīss, sister Agnia, Karin and Iveta, husband of liana Gavin from England - as well as friends - Anna from Elean, Pauline from Liverpool in England, Annie and Erica from Missouri State in America, Anna from Moscow in Russia, Linda and Juris from Iberiles.
Among the children of the birthday, the idea of the event was great. There were 67 Bērzgales and Lendžu parish children and young people.
Many young people lack motivation to learn languages, learning often associated with endless grammar tasks. When learning English, it is often forgotten to practise it. The purpose of the event was to show that the language can be learned through conversations, games, activities, so that the program was organized as an outlet in a free atmosphere or indoors without sitting in benches without performing grammar tasks.
All participants were divided into three age groups. Another topic was considered each day. Day 1 – Welcome through games, activities. Day 2 – information technologies, communications and opportunities today. In the course of this day, information and a picture of the event were facebook.com and posted to the social network to check how far the news came into the world. Internet surfers responded not only from Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Europe, but also from Singapore, Ecuador and Indonesia. Day 3 was dedicated to England, America and Australia. Then foreign visitors were interviewed, discussions and erudition games were held to verify knowledge of these lands. 4 day – nature, environment, animals, plants, planets, musical bingo. Day 5 - Closing, collection of all acquired knowledge. The members of the camp and their parents thanked the leaders for their nice week, time, knowledge and attention.
The organisers of the camp are pleased with the work done and notes that the greatest satisfaction was to see children and young people smiling, salted, friendly, to feel that they perceive the leaders and teachers as new friends. It was decided that the Facebook.com will create a page that will contain information about the week and photo you have taken.
Liana and Evie say thank you not only to donors, to your family and friends and to children's parents, but also TO THE manager and staff of THE Bērzgales parish administration, for a nice reception and support, THE head of THE Lendžu parish administration and the bus driver, the owner of the canteen “morning” and the passage of Rasma for the delicious lunch, EVERY “Mayan coast”, the vija and the breeze for the mixed houses, leaders and all, all who supported this summer school.
All teachers who volunteered encourage young people to continue learning languages and not miss such and similar opportunities to practice and acquire new knowledge.
