Since 1999, the European Heritage Days are marked on the initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Commission in the first half of September. Every year, these days are subject to their own theme, this year is a restoration. On August 28, 2019, on the eve of European Heritage Days in Rezekne Central Library, it was possible to get closer to the restoration industry, educational opportunities in the acquisition of this profession, the specificities of the restorator work, also examples of good practice.
The visitor of the event, the head of the design and restoration education programmes of the Latvian Secondary School of Art and Design, Andris Anspoks, spoke with excitement about the profession of restorer and how, with the help of professional restoration, both large and smaller cultural values can be saved from destruction.
The participants in the event were able to keep a variety of brushes, picking up several types of varnishes and colours that are used when restoring different household items. Visitors had the opportunity to ask questions and get practical advice, such as how to fight pumpkins, how to obtain materials needed for restoration from natural substances. In the event of the event, participants were also able to engage in practical activity.
The event is in partnership with EDIC in Eastern Latgale.
