EP Eurobarometer: a year before the European elections on national benefits from membership OF THE EU, 70% Latvian population

National participation in the European Union (EU) is a “good thing” - according to the results of the latest EP Eurobarometer survey in Latvia, it considers 52% population (comparison: March 2017 - 45%, and September - 47%). On average, THE EU considers 60% respondents, but in our neighbouring countries even more - in Lithuania 67% and Estonia 69% poll.

Similarly, THE RESULTS of THE EP Eurobarometer show that the majority OF EU citizens (67%) are convinced of their national benefits from membership OF THE EU and is the highest indicator since 1983 when such measurements were first carried out in the European Union. IN Latvia, 70% people believe that our country's participation in the European Union has brought benefits. In Estonia, it evaluates 86% and Lietuvos 90%.
Knowledge, plans and reasons for voting in the next European elections in May 2019
Almost a third (32%) EU respondents already know the next European election date in May 2019 in their country (period 23-26 May). On average, 50% OF EU citizens (excluding Britain) recognise that they are interested in the forthcoming European elections, and in 15 EU countries they have responded to most respondents. From Baltic States in Lithuania - 52%, Estonia - 46%, but in Latvia 32%.
The main reasons for voting --- > respondents in TOP5 in Latvia and Europe are asked:

  1. This is the duty of citizens: LV 54%; EU 47%
  2. Changes in the European Parliament elections can be made: LV 38%; EU 33%
  3. I feel i am EU citizen: LV 31%; EU 30%
  4. I systematically participate in the elections: LV 27%; EU 31%
  5. Wants to support EU: LV 23%; EU 29%

It should be noted that 30.241 TP1T Latvian population took part in the previous elections to the European Parliament (May 2014). Latvia is one of 8 EU countries where at least half of respondents[1] acknowledges that he did not participate in the election for technical or personal reasons. IN Latvia, it is mentioned as the reason for non-voting IN 53%.
Economy and growth - a priority that we believe should be discussed before the European elections
Asked to indicate 6 areas for which the broader debate is necessary during the pre-election period, in Latvia 59% as priority of the economy and growth (EU 42%), reducing unemployment among young people (LV 52%, EU 48%, EU 32%, EU 32%), the fight against terrorism (LV 32%, EU 49%), security and defence policy (LV 29%, ES 29%), as well as immigration (LV 28%, ES 45%).
On the study: Following the European Parliament's order, the Eurobarometer survey was carried out by Cantar public in all 28 EU Member States from 11 to 22 April 2018. 27 601 EU citizens participated in the study, including 1012 respondents. Methodology used - direct interviews (face-to-face).
