The European Day of Languages, 26 September, from 11.00 to 12.40 in the European Union house, the Aspazian Boulevard 28, Riga, there will be masteries that will be able to explore Norwegian, Spanish, Italian, Croatian, French, Dutch, Swedish and sign languages.
In workshops, any interested in language learning will be able to obtain information on the culture of the different countries of the European Union, to hear the sound of languages, to learn important words and phrases, and to possibly inspire one of these languages to learn deeply.
Between 11.00 and 11.40, the Norwegian, Spanish, Italian and Croatian language workshops will be held, from 12.00 to 12.40 - Dutch, French, Swedish and sign-language masters.
Snorre Karkkonen – Svensson, who is one of the founding members of the Nordic language centre, will be guided by the Norwegian masterclass. Snorre Karkkonen – Svensson specializes in Norwegian language pronouncement, has worked as a teacher at the Latvian cultural academy and Latvian university, as well as an interpreter and translator. Currently organizes cultural events and provides advice to the Nordic language centre.
The Spanish language will be managed by Javier Fernandez Cruz, who is the director of the Spanish cultural centre Seneca and has served Spanish for eight years. Javier Fernandez Cruz has taught Spanish language at various private language centres as well as at the Riga Cultural High School.
During the Italian-language workshop, a foreign tourist role in Italy will allow Giulio lo Bello, who gives Italian language to Latvian university, as well as Italian and English translators. Giulio lo Bello is currently studying in a doctorate in the University of Latvia's philosophy study program.
With Croatian and Serbian language differences, as well as the history of Croatia and the cultural workshop, the Latvian and Balkan Association of Economic and Cultural Relations “Balkans Flowers”, Astra Oak, will be presented.
The Dutch-language masterclass will be managed by Zane Geida, whose Dutch language was born 11 years ago when he went TO THE YFU exchange programme to the Netherlands and spent one year at a local secondary school. Zanes Gaidas's Dutch-language teaching experience has already been measured over a period of six years, with the participation of stakeholders in both the Dutch-Latvian chambers of commerce and the individual.
The French-language workshop will be managed by Allan Kaljakin, head of the French Institute of Language Courses, and by Laura le Cleach.
The Swedish language is presented by Santa Trimalniece, who has studied in the Latvian cultural academy programme International Cultural Communications Latvia-Sweden and has learned Swedish language at the Alsta People's High School in Sweden during his studies. Santa Trimalniece has worked in the Danish cultural institute, for nearly two years is a Swedish-language teacher at the Nordic language centre and is also a psychologist.
The language of the sign language will be led by Lilita Janševska, head of the Latvian-language development department of the Latvian deaf Union rehabilitation centre, former surdointerpreter, now a lecturer at the college of the State Agency for Social Integration, where the surrogate interpreters are prepared. L.janshevska also conducts sign language courses.
On 26 September each year, the European Union Member States celebrate the European Day of Languages when special attention is paid to European languages, their diversity and their lifelong learning.
