On April 17, 2015, an excursion project of the Montreal Latvian Public Centre for students will “explore and know Latvia's history!”. 165 applications were submitted for the competition, from which the jury supported 80, one of which was the project developed by the Gaigalavas primary school.
The project was awarded a certificate of 400 euros, which was presented at the festive final event at the Riga Latvian Society. The aim of the project is to promote the events of out-of-class events devoted to the history of Latvia in schools, to develop students' interest in Latvia's history in different periods of time and in various districts, as well as to promote the prestige of Latvia's history as a teaching object in society.
In the final event, project coordinators had the opportunity to see and meet the history of Riga Latvian Society, to listen to the interesting narrative of Gunta Gailey, President of Riga Latvian Society, as well as a great honour – the opportunity to sign in the honorary book of the freedom monument!
We are grateful to all the organisers and initiators of the project contests for the opportunity to visit our homeland, the most important historical events in the wealthy place. It should be added that we will be able to travel for the second year in the course of this project!
