On April 1, 2014, an excursion project of the Montreal Latvian Public Centre for students will “explore and know Latvia's history!”. 127 applications were submitted for the competition, from which the jury supported 52, one of which was the project developed by the Gaigalavas primary school. The project was awarded certificates of 400 euros, presented at the formal closing event in Riga. The aim of the project is to promote the events of out-of-class events devoted to the history of Latvia in schools, to develop students' interest in Latvia's history in different periods of time and in various districts, as well as to promote the prestige of Latvia's history as a teaching object in society.

Within the framework of the project, on May 1-9 of the elementary school OF Gaigalavas, students will attend the Līgatne paper factory and will be acquainted with the development of the paper industry in Latvia during the Soviet period and today; in the bunker Līgatne Rehabilitation Centre will participate in the reality game “object X”, as well as examine the exhibitions of the Mores war museum, the battle technique, THE II World War ii battle sites and the historical heritage. The pupils will listen to the narrative of battles during World War II in the vicinity of the Līgatne, the preparedness of the state of Soviet times in extremist situations (in the event of a nuclear war), as well as the development of the paper industry in Latvia during different periods of time.

We are grateful to all the organisers and initiators of the project contests for the opportunity to visit our homeland, the most important historical events in the wealthy place.
