Social Department

In THE study GISTAR of the University of Latvia's clinical and prophylactic medical institute, the 1000 th respondent was included in the regional centre of Rezekne last week.
THERE have been more than 6200 respondents in Latvia. 1000 respondent in Rezekne's research centre was a resident of Rezekne, Fiodorra Cuprinikova (figure). In a conversation with THE GIST, Fiodor notes that he had come to the exams because he was in the first place for his health. Fiodor does not drink alcoholic beverages, do not drink as well as care for healthy food. In conversation, he notes that it is hard to avoid inherited diseases, so it is very important to investigate in time. GISTAR regional research centres are a great opportunity to carry out such investigations. Fiodor appreciates the success of the Rēzekne regional centre, noting that they are nice, friendly and responsive, trying to do their job well. As a significant GIST in the realization of the study, Fiodor notes that it is important for research to develop directly in regions, as people are less informed and often neglected of their health, and they are reluctant to visit doctors. Our thousands of respondents advise everyone to go to exams because their health is the most important thing!
THE scientific head OF THE GISTAR Study, LU Professor Marcis, notes that several oncological cases can be successfully treated if they are diagnosed at an early stage. He stresses that in the future there will be much more opportunities for early diagnosis of oncological diseases, which are currently being discovered late, in such a way as to enable them to be successfully treated and people are given the opportunity to live. Currently, screening is also recommended for people who do not have symptoms of oncology, which makes it possible to identify the disease at an early stage. THE GISTAR Research Group is working on new diagnostic methods and prevention measures. The professor is predicting that it may be possible for 10 years to have tests that will allow the detection of oncological disease at an early stage.

* for information:
In the framework of the study, the population aged 40-64 has an opportunity to carry out the risk assessment and early diagnosis of the risk of digestive system tumours - fat, rectal and part of stomach malignancies free of charge. When diagnosing the malignant process in time, most of the tumours can be successfully treated.
Multiple malignancies of both gastrointestinal and colonial malignancies have been detected at an early stage, more than 70% reveal gastric helicobacteria, as well as a variety of malignant tumours. Treatment is provided or recommended for the population.
More than 6200 Vidzeme, Latgale and Kurzeme residents from Cēsis, Alūksne, Ludza, Saldus and Tukums are already involved in the study.
Further monitoring of the patients involved in the project during the 10-15 years is also planned.
