Honour the commemoration of the victims of the Second World War

On the morning of May 8, the Memorandum of Understanding held a moment of reflection, mentioning the victims of the Second World War and the destruction of Nazism. By placing flowers at the foot of the monument “mother apple”, the President OF the Rēzekne District Council, Monvīds Švarcs, called for mention not only of the fallen, but also of the people whose lives had passed in the shadow of the war: “The second World War took over more than 60 million people. That number must also be accompanied by millions of people whose lives were on the other side of the war, but they also felt the war and the seriousness in their fate. '
As THE Monvīds Švarcs stressed, such memorial events should be organised every year, but they should not be converted into a platform for political advertising: “should not be polished at the expense of human tragedy. It is unacceptable if politicians are talking about peace, stressing that nothing can happen, but at the same time demonstrates his military superiority and shows his willingness to war. The greatest honor of the fallen would be if the great politicians agreed, worked and cooperated so that there was no military conflict in the modern world. '
Piemineklis Māte ābele It should be noted that the Second World War was the largest armed conflict in the history of humanity, involving most of the world's countries from 1939 to 1945. On May 8, 1945, Nazi Germany signed a capitulation act, which resulted in the bloody war in the history of the world. On 8 May, the historic contribution of Allies, the United States, the former Soviet Union, the French and British forces, to the destruction of Nazism is mentioned.
Latvia lost almost a third of its population in the Second World War. More than hundreds of thousands of Latvian men fell in battle, fighting on both sides of the front. Rēzekne Municipality currently lives around 20 Second World War veterans, many of whom are also visited by parish management employees in these days.
